Rather than enhancing a country’s security, the successful development of nuclear weapons could serve at first to increase that country’s ___________

A. boldness B. influence C. responsibility D. immoderation E. vulnerability

Using the math strategy,

I knew its contrast based on “rather than” enhancing x… so i was looking for something as enhancing y.

So I thought enhancing a country’s influence. Not security but influence.

I know that security is positive so when we contrast we have to look for something negative and influence is not negative…

But why cannot I just say 2 different things… as simple as say, rather than eating rice for lunch, I ate sandwich… something like that…

Where am I going wrong?

Rather than signals the contrast thus, as country’s security contains a positive tone the idea we’re looking for should be negative and opposite of the idea of security in some-sense.
