TC question

The cultivation of the emotion of natsukashii,
interpretable as “pleasant sorrow,” brings
Japanese to Kyoto in the spring, not to -------
the cherry blossoms in full bloom but to -------
the fading, falling flowers.

(A) mourn … exclaim over
(8) honor… protect
(C) describe … rejoice over
(D) arrange … preserve
(E) savor. .grieve over

Why can’t the two blanks here be synonyms? There is a clear contrast between bloom and fading too.

You answered your question yourself

hey, I’m sorry but I didn’t get you.
The answer is E. My question is why would there be another contrast if there already exists one?

because bloom and fading are a contrast, the two ideas have to maintain the same relationship, a contrast. not to savor and grieve over maintain that relationship

ah got it. Thank a lot
