Can someone explain why the 3rd option is wrong?
Because question talks about equal compensation which means Salaries and variation is similar to difference.
For me the 3rd option looks like a better answer.
The difference is percentages hints towards a variation so, for blank (i) options A,B,C all fits.
Now, blank (ii) is a little tricky , first, it is talking about a difference in opinion (polled believed) whether they provide equal salaries to male or female employee. Now, as it is an opinion an not a fact we can’t say for sure that the salaries are equal or not . Also, they haven’t mentioned the salaries explicitly for us to infer that the data is correct or not . While for difference of opinion we have a clear evidence that a high % of male and a low percentage of female thinks they are paid equal by their employer. Thus , option B fits more aptly into the blanks
