The (i) nature of classical tragedy in Athens belies the modern

The (i) nature of classical tragedy in Athens belies the modern
image of tragedy: in the modern view tragedy is austere and stripped
down, its representations of ideological and emotional conflicts so
superbly compressed that there’s nothing (ii) for time to erode.

not able to figure out 1 st blank. As Greg explains “:” both sides support, then why he used contrast.

Hey @navalgaikwad1991

Believe the first blank should be a contrast because of the word belies which means to contradict. So as per Greg’s Math Strategy, if Modern Tragedy is Austere and stripped down, then nature of classical tragedy should be contrast of Austere and stripped down.

I believe the colon does show support in its own merit but as per me it should be secondary and the meaning of the sentence should take precedence each time.

I don’t see the answer choices, so my explanation is limited.

Hope this helps
