Tricky TC - Big Book Test 11 Section 6, Q 3

Hey. Can someone help me understand the logic for this one? The correct answer is c. I can’t seem to find the evidence for C. I chose A (even though I wasn’t feeling completely convinced).

If the public’s appetite is insatiable - doesn’t it imply that they want MORE art? I didn’t find any evidence for quantity. But thought discriminating made some sense since maybe the public preferred more established artists and discriminated against the new ones?

I think it is difficult to directly guess exact words for both blanks. Here’s how i deal with it.

In the first blank, “to” denotes support so at right side there is nurturing young painters, which is a +ve thing and my initial guess was “generous”. Now in second part “but” indicates contrast so the obvious thing we know is the overall theme of second part should be -ve. Thus, the apetite should be presented in a negative way.

Looking at options we see, only option with first part positive is A, B and C. Now chivalrous doesn’t make any sense in the blank so can be eliminated. For B and C now, second part should be negative. quirky can be used in positive as well as negative case thus can be eliminated.

For option C if we plug in answers we get sense that dealers are patient enough to nurture artist which means, it takes time to get good art or results but public have unsatisfying apetitite which can be fullfilled because artist are in nurturing stage. I hope this makes sense
