Verbal HW

Can someone explain me this one?
I did it by math strategy but got incorrect answer.

yet = contrast (−)

  1. Right side = “ads hide differences” = negative (−)

  2. Contrast → second blank = positive (+)

  3. Colon = support → first blank = same sign as second blank → positive (+)

    So I chose effective and vocal

The idea you picked for the right-side is describing the advertising but the blank is describing the candidates themselves, so they are not talking about the same thing.

political candidates are _____ [yet (-)] political candidates have important differences

So blank should be opposite of “have important differences”

Doesn’t the last idea say that “campaign advertisements“ hide “important differences“, meaning the political candidates have important differences and are dissimilar?

Sorry you’re right. The yet is contrasting about how advertising is lying, not contrasting the politicians themselves

Is the correct answer (C) deceptive and (E) dissimilar? It’s a nice question btw

For your reference, I have colour-coded the context clues to identify the correct answer choices.
