Verbal OG TC

Hi all,

In this question here, I got the contrast in between the last blank and “extreme and life-changing ones” which led me to the correct answer there. For the first blank however, I could not find any evidence for either of the three options. It’d be great if someone could explain why the correct answer would fit into the first blank here. Is it a contrast in between what “molded” the causes and what “molded” the content?

I think you understand the contrast: between the content and causes of the dreams. The key as usual in TC and SE is your ability to get the main idea of part of the passage - in this case, the clause beginning with “for dreams”.

What’s your take on the main idea of that clause?

While not familiar with finding a main idea within the TC context, I can try and guess. To me the main take away from the last clause would be how commonplace and extreme events are equally likely to affect the “content” of dreams.

For some reason I thought that the “causes” of dreams were being affected by regular events and extreme ones. But as I was typing this response out is when I realized that the “causes” are what are difficult to decipher.

The main idea of that clause is about the causes, not content

From what I understand, the first sentence tries to capture the overall sense of whatever is being talked about i.e. dreams being molded by life changing and mundane events both. The ‘Yet’ that follows indicates that even though it’s somehow similar to (i), we observe both sides of the thing. (i) should be the opposite of (ii)
