I got option (B) Universality - applied to.
The Logic - both sections of the question that are divided by the comma before ‘simply’ have a similar meaning and hence talking about an interchangeable word or meaning (That’s how I understood it, I am wrong definitely).
I tried to solve it using the math strategy, I’d be grateful if someone could help me with this question.

Option B work for the first blank but for second blank the word applied doesn’t fit. Another thing to take a note is that although apply do got a synonym in utilize but in here utilize fits much better in the blank due to usage.

P.S. In current GRE the logic is more tight thus, you’ll not run into this issue anymore

Thanks for this. I think I got it after you said it, it makes more sense now. Is there a way to do this using the math strategy like with the positive and the negative support or contrast.
