Documenting science’s ----- philosophy would be -------, since it is almost axiomatic that many
philosophers use scientific concepts as the foundations for their speculations.

(A) distrust of … elementary
(B) influence on … superfluous
(C) reliance on … inappropriate
(D) dependence on … difficult
(E) differences from . .impossible

Why is ‘C’ wrong guys?

Thanks in advance.

The clue for blank (ii) is almost axiomatic and it means “unquestionable”, therefore if would be useless to speculate about it. So , I will fill in the blank(ii) with useless.

Now, In blank (i) we are trying to measure up/document the affect science is having on philosophy . So, I will fill the blank(i) with affect.

Ans: B

I would also eliminate option C and D as both are synonyms
( reliance :dependence :: inappropriate : difficuly )

First of all, I am thankful to you. Getting to the content, definitely reliance and dependence are synonyms of each other but I don’t think inappropriate and difficult are.
Furthermore, the second part of the sentence says that philosophers use science, hence for the first part to say that science relies on philosophy would be inappropriate.
This is how understood the problem. I still can’t figure out where am I wrong?
Thanks!

If you tackle it this way then according to question scientific concepts are used as foundations —> From this we can say that philosophy relies on science or science controls philosophy

Now, going back to the question :-
Documenting science’s ----- philosophy → we cannot say science relies or depend on philosophy because it is the other way round on the other hand we can say science control philosophy ,so fill blank (i) with control

Oh wow,
Thanks a lot buddy.
I should have gone through synonyms.
Have a good day
