I am trying to solve the identification of support and contrast words. I am stuck in the above question. I had gotten the answer correct merely by guessing but I am not fully convinced by the answer. Please help me to understand the thinking that we would put behind the question.
LHS of “and” says “owners took advantage” of something, so it gives us a hint that RHS should imply that they increased the rents, so it helps us get a prediction for the blank.
The purpose of the exercise is to select the support/contrast logic word, phrase or punctuation that helps us to make a prediction for the blank.
