can someone explain how to apply the math strategy to this question? i was thinking the answer will have a negative tone because we have a “that” which is a support and the “criticize” which is a negative so + and - is a -?
“That” is a support; a bridge between Thackeray’s beliefs and his actions (the criticism). But what are Thackeray’s beliefs–are they positive or negative?

a +ve (that) and a -ve (criticism) means the beliefs are negative right?
Yup–his belief was that “the cult of the criminal [was] dangerous”, which sounds pretty negative to me.
