Week 2 Day 4 Applications: Words to Algebra Practice Problem

Hello all, I tried solving the question like so:

ratio of men/women = 9/20
ratio of additional men/women = 2/2
Adding these two together → 9/20 + 2/2 = 29/20

Why is my solution wrong? I also did not get the idea of which exact quantity is supposed to be the variable. Looking forward to your help.

Why do you think we can add the ratios together like that?

Because of “additional”

Oh I see, thats not quite how it works.
