WEEK 3: Day 4: Big Book: Review Answers: The Sociologist question

can anyone explain this pls:
why the answer is heretical, while heretical is unorthodox.
and it clearly says, it did not contradict accepted norms. It means it was orthodox…

Notice the language use in the part : “charge that her new theory” : here, someone is accusing the sociologist of something and words after "pointing out " is the sociologist repose to that allegation.

Now, the clue is after pointing out, which , if we put in layman terms says : Sociologist theory is orthodox. Now, the blank will the opposite of this due to the use of pointing out : which means , the sociologist is clearing-up the misunderstanding. hence, the blank will be unorthodox.

Also, tagging doesn’t work and you tagged a lot of fake accounts

She was responding to the claim that it was “unorthodox” by saying it was NOT unorthodox.

Kind of like someone saying to the claim that they are “lazy” by saying I’m NOT lazy.

So we’re just reusing the word “unorthodox” in the blank, of which “heretical” is the closest choice.

Sure

@gregmat thanks for responding to my query.

Also, is there any grammar mistake I am doing? that refers to the charge instead of that referring to the “responded”. Is this a basic grammar concept where that refers to the latest noun? I remember reading it in one of your video a few months back, but not able to find out.

“that” is the beginning of the noun clause, and is optional in this sentence.
