Guys in the above question I did understand the logic behind blank (ii), but I am a little confused with blank (i).

My thought process was: if the poverty is discernible then the policymakers must not be nitpicky or they must not require any more evidence.
I know the word which guessed isn’t present in the answer choices but help me understand why I am wrong.

I think your guess is logical and fine. If there was an answer choice like “nitpicky” it would be right. Often, there are multiple ways to fill a blank using support/contrast.
