Is it the line “remains of wild plants increased”? Does the fact that remains increased mean that they started consuming wild plants a lot?
Yes, acc. to the passage as the Pueblo community population decline they faced shortage in both of their domesticated products (plant (maize), animal(turkey)) while the remains of wild pants and animals increased suggest that their consumption on wild products increased while their consumption of domesticated products decline as Pueblo population decreased.
Yes you see the data which clearly shows maize (domesticated crop) consumption reduced from 44% to 10% (which is a marked decrease). And then in the next line it says, there were remaining of wild plants from which we can infer that the people of Pueblo community shifted from Maize to wild plants.
To more support his point, he says that part of the maize was fed to turkeys which reduced later. This means that they resorted from domestic animals for food (here turkey) to wild animals. Now obviously you will not feed wild plants to wild animals right because they are in the wild. So, definitely if the site is having remaining of wild plants it can be attributed that those wild plants were eaten by the Pueblo community people.
