On the (I’m Overwhelmed) Algebra Progress Quiz #3 - Version 2 Solutions test lies question 21:
“xsquared + 10 = 0 has zero solutions.” - true or false
(apologies in advance I don’t know how to do the squared symbol on pc).
My understanding of x2 versus (x)2 is that if a negative number goes into the former, it remains negative. Whereas in the latter it becomes positive. In fact, in this question, Greg uses the latter aka (x)2 to demonstrate that all negative numbers squared in this expression become positive. But the notation depicts the former aka x2 and not the latter aka x(2).
So I’m a tad confused and would appreciate help so I can set this issue to bed once and for all. Apologies if the above is confusing. Happy to elaborate.
Massive thanks in advance!!
